Almere : How to make it futureproof ?

This project proposes a framework of urban and architectural design on which a strong, ecological and self-governed comunity can flourish. The final plan is thus only one of the scenarios in which the district could evolve into depending on the inhabitants will. This framework is structured around three different typologies of buildings, vertical villas, distributed in a single linear building in the north of the district, half built duplexes with room for comunity spaces at ground level, and finally single family homes. Environmental sustainability was one of the main goals of this plans, which thus extract solar energy on its roof, stores water in the ground which also helps to mediate floods, has biodiversity friendly facades thanks to a system of double walls, and uses train and barges for freight movement.
